Exams
Initial Exam - A new patient examination includes a thorough evaluation of the current conditions of the patient’s teeth and mouth and provides a diagnosis for treatment. An explanation of diagnosis and a treatment plan is then recommended.

Periodic Exam - A regular patient's oral examination is done every 6 months. These preventative appointments are recommended to evaluate, diagnose, and record information needed for treatment.

Limited (emergency) exam is limited to a particular area of concern for that patient.

X-ray
X-rays are taken at new patient exams and between 6 months to 1 year during periodic exams at cleaning appointments. X-rays are used to diagnose interproximal decay (between teeth) that is not evident during a visual exam. They are also used to check the formation of permanent teeth, possible crowding and eruption problems, and to check for abscesses.

Cleaning & Fluoride

Periodontal Disease
Periodontal disease is also known as gum disease. Gums maybe red, swollen, itchy, bleed easily, or may show no signs at all. Periodontal disease is determined by the gum inflammation, contour, color, and bone stability. During a comprehensive or periodic exam your gum health will be evaluated. The majority of patients will only need recommendation or instruction on how to keep or maintain proper gum health. If there is a concern it may require attention, or perhaps referral to a periodontist.

Sealant
Sealants are recommended as a preventative procedure to prevent the start of decay in the groove areas (chewing surface) of primary and permanent molar and bicuspid teeth. The sealant is a resin material. At preventative appointments sealants are checked and replaced when necessary.

Crown and Bridgework
Crowns are indicated when the tooth may require more stability. There are many types of crowns, some used to restore unstable teeth and others can be used for improving the look or shape of your teeth (cosmetic).

Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen Sedation
We offer Nitrous Oxide, also known as laughing gas, to our patients. Nitrous may be helpful due to its calming effect. It may help relax the nervous or aid a child in a good dental experience. Although nitrous oxide does relax most patients, we still use local anesthetic to numb the area being treated.
